It seems that every time we finish up a movie or book in this class, there are always a few quotes that stick out to me and define the works as a whole. As Out of the Past comes to an end, here are the quotes that caught my attention.
" We've been wrong a lot and unlucky for awhile. We deserve a break" - Jeff
"All women are wonders because they reduce men to the obvious" - Whit
"If I have to, I'll die last" -Jeff
I feel the same way. When I'm watching them, I'll hear a line that just hits me as powerful. The one that stuck out for me in "Out of the Past" was: "You're no good for anyone but me. You're no good and neither am I. That's why we deserve each other" - Kathie.
ReplyDeleteI like the witty dialogue in noirs. Like when Kathie says, "Did you miss me?" and Jeff responds, "No more than I would my eyes." I wonder how noirs would be without their witty dialogue!
ReplyDeleteI especially liked this exchange between Jeff and Kathie:
ReplyDeleteJeff: I didn't know you were so small.
Kathie: I'm taller than Napoleon.
Jeff: You're prettier too.
This stuck out to me as an example of the fast-paced and amusing dialogue in noir films, and I think it takes place right before the, “No more than I would my eyes,” quote.
I also like the dialogue in the noir genre. The "baby" dialogue that we often saw in the earlier films were corny but got the point across in a subtle way. The witty dialogue helps to further the plot and is directly related to the plot line.
